CEBU SCHOOL OF MIDWIFERY,  Cebu City

History

The Cebu Woman's Club opened the Cebu School of Midwifery (CSM) in 1923 after the Cebu Maternity House was established in 1922.

The school aimed to provide a program of education to prepare selected women to participate with medical and nursing guidance, in the provision of normal maternity services. The first 14 midwifery students graduated in 1924.

The Cebu School of Midwifery together with the Cebu Maternity House continued to function until the outbreak of World War II at which time both the school and the hospital were used as offices for the Japanese garrison and thus completely demolished by the bombs of U.S. Airforce.

In 1955, permission was granted for the re-opening of the school by the Secretary of Health.

In 1985, the Board of Midwifery, Professional Regulatory Commission officially announced that CSM ranked second among the top ten schools of midwifery in the country.

Up to the present, the school remained as one of the country'stop performing schools of midwifery in the Midwives' Licensure Examination.
